Three Golden Halo Finalists!

golden halo 2017

March 2, 2017: Congratulations to the following teachers that received the official announcement today that they are Golden Halo finalists for 2017: (left to right) Mrs. Jo Weber, kindergarten; Miss Naomi Welborn, third grade; and Mr. Matt Ziemer, physical education!  We are very proud of our teachers at FMCS! This year’s event took place on April 21st at St. Leo’s Parish Life Center in Bonita Springs.

For the past eleven years, the Christian Chamber of Southwest Florida has honored private school teachers with the Golden Halo Awards. (The equivalent to the public school’s Golden Apple Awards) The new format has finalists chosen four school levels: K-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12.

In 2016, we had our first winner in school history: Mrs. Myra Stewart, our Learning Resource teacher, won in the 3th-5th grade category as she was nominated by 4th grader, Rosie Truillo! You can see her acceptance speech on our FMCS TV on YouTube.

The winner of the 9-12 level was Mrs. Vicki Watson, former FMCS teacher and mother of our K4 teacher, Leslie Earp!

In 2012, our school had four in the top ten:

1) Mrs. Stacey Leatherman – Middle School Science
2) Mrs. Jennifer Crouch – Middle School Language Arts
3) Mrs. Lee Mitchell – Middle School History
4) Mrs. Rachel Tuma – Third grade

Other past top ten finalists include:

– Mrs. Myra Stewart, Learning Resource Teacher
– Mrs. Lauren Collins, Second Grade
– Mr. Johnathon Blikstad, Middle School Math
– Mrs. Gayle Shell, First Grade
– Mrs. Jo Weber, Kindergarten
