Black History Month Essay Contest

Fort Myers Christian School is proud of seventh grader, Annelisa Swiersz, who has been chosen to be the Middle School winner of the Governor’s Black History Month Essay Contest for the State of Florida. She and the Elementary and High School recipients traveled to Tallahassee to attend a ceremony with the Governor on February 17.

Governor Scott said, “This year during Black History Month, we are honored to recognize African American heroes, past and present, who have risked their lives to ensure the safety of others. American history is full of African American heroes, veterans, military members, law enforcement officers, and first responders, who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to protect Floridians and people all over the world. Ann and I are proud to announce this year’s winners and thank everyone who participated in this year’s contests to learn more about African American history in Florida.”
